Introducing For Kinfolk, By Kinfolk
Welcome to For Kinfolk, By Kinfolk.
This space is an invitation to reimagine public memory.
Kinfolk has joined Substack as part of a broader shift in how we think about our newsletter—and how we engage with ideas, history, and the present moment. We’re creating room for writing that lingers, asks harder questions, and resists easy conclusions.
Kinfolk Tech is an organization weaving together art, technology, and history. Our work centers on preserving and expanding the historical record—especially the stories, voices, and experiences that have too often been the target of censorship and erasure. We believe history is not static or settled; it is alive, evolving, and deeply connected to how we understand ourselves and one another today.
As with most newsletters, ours has been a way to stay in touch. Sharing organizational updates and upcoming events, as well as reflections on how our present and futures connect to our past. What we’re building here is something adjacent, but distinct: an editorial space for deeper thought. Where readers are invited not just to consume information, but to sit with ideas.
We chose Substack because it allows this work to live as more than an email. Here, our writing becomes part of a growing archive—meant to be read with intention, revisited over time, and shared as part of a wider conversation. This platform supports the kind of long-form, essay-driven work we want to offer as we continue to reflect on history, collective power, culture, and the ongoing work of collective memory.
What can you expect from this publication? Each month, we’ll publish a long-form essay or op-ed that engages a particular theme or question—writing that connects past and present, theory and lived experience. These pieces will be thoughtful, grounded, and unafraid to wrestle with complexity. We’ll also continue to share a digest of organizational updates, offering glimpses into Kinfolk’s programs, collaborations, and evolving work.
We’re excited to enter this new chapter inviting you to think alongside us about the moment we’re in and the histories that shape it. We hope it sparks reflection, conversation, and perhaps a few productive questions of your own.
Thank you for finding us here. We’re glad you’re reading—and we hope you’ll stay.
